ANDY LELEISI’UAO

SEEKING HOMONOIALAND

2-25 July 2026

It is a genuine honour to host Andy Leleisi’uao’s first ever UK solo show here in Edinburgh. It’s the first in a series of three exhibitions which fall under the banner of MOANA ALBA – a showcase of six fascinating artists with mixed Aotearoa / Samoan heritage.

Andy is based in Christchurch. His parents Pepe (Lalomauga, Upolu) and Savea Tui’fa’asisina Tinou’amea (Palauli, Savai’i), migrated to New Zealand from Samoa in the mid 1960’s. His art is born from experience; from factory worker to established artist, from being the ‘outsider’ to becoming an important and influential leader in the broader arts community in Aotearoa.

Andy has been exhibiting since 1995, and explores themes of cultural identity, societal and diasporic issues from a New Zealand born Samoan perspective. He is represented by Scott Lawrie Gallery (Edinburgh), Bergman Gallery (Rarotonga), Milford Galleries (Dunedin/Queenstown), PG 192 Gallery (Christchurch) and collaborates with Moana Fresh and West Coast Gallery in Auckland

His work is held in the permanent collections of Christchurch Art Gallery Te Puna Waiwhetu, University of Canterbury, The Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa and Pataka Art + Museum (Wellington), Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tamaki, Chartwell Trust Collection, University of Auckland, Museum der Weltkulturen (Frankfurt) and many international private collections.

All artist travel to Scotland was kindly supported by Creative New Zealand’s Pacific Strategy Fund, and we are so grateful for their support.
